Why Christian Counseling?

It really is OK to have your Christian beliefs as a part of therapy. In fact, if your spiritual beliefs are important to you, it is unethical for therapists to avoid or ignore this part of your life. I have had many clients tell me that they have had therapists who identify as Christian therapists, totally ignore this part of a client's life. Whether bringing in prayer, biblical concepts, or other aspects of your walk with God, I aim to let your relationship with God be a major part of your healing journey.

Hearing God Facilitates Healing

In traditional therapy, there is a large emphasis on identifying how distorted thoughts produce depression, anxiety, and other painful emotions. Therapists train clients how to change these beliefs with more functional beliefs.

My approach as a Christian therapist is to use your beliefs as well as your interactive connection with God as a way of facilitating healing. One tool for this is to use listening prayer in the therapy session where we provide space for the still small voice of God to be heard. This is blended with other psychotherapy interventions as well as other Christian integration methods.

Do I have to do the Christian counseling thing to see you?

I see clients from all backgrounds. I am happy to work with you regardless of your spiritual beliefs. Part of the intake process is to match my approach to what you are wanting out of therapy. I only integrate Christian counseling for those who have requested this form of therapy.
